In a surprising move, Fulham have signed Swedish midefielder/striker David Elm on a one year deal for for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £500,000 from Kalmar FF. Fulham boss Roy Hodgson used his Scandinavian contacts to track the midfielder and had him scouted as many as five times before making a move. Hodgson was personally present for Kalmar FF vs. Debrecen Champions League qualifying game and was impressed by Elm’s display.
At 6’3 Elm is considered as the best “target man” by many pundits in Sweden. Elm played a major role in helping his club win the Swedish league title in 2008 and the Swedish Cup in 2009. He comes in as a replacement for the injured Andy Johnson.
Elm spoke to the Cottagers’ official website expressing his delight at the move –
“I am looking forward to training with the team straight away in preparation for some important Premier League and Europa League matches after the international break,” he said.
“I have enjoyed my time in Sweden and I am now looking forward to an exciting chapter in my career with Fulham.”
Elm’s younger brother Rasmus was also being tracked by a host of big European clubs. After rejecting overtures from the Premier League, Rasmus finally signed for Dutch champions AZ Alkmaar.
