Aston Villa have accepted a £3million bid for midfielder Craig Gardner from city rivals Birmingham City. The 23 year-old is now set to undergo a medical and discuss terms with the club. The deal was agreed on Friday and the deal is expected to complete the deal in the next week.
Gardner has made 79 appearances for Villa but has struggled to hold down a regular first team place this season. The midfielder was a boyhood Blues fan. Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has a long held interest in the former under-21 international because of his ability to play in a variety of positions.
Another player who could be leaving Villa is full-back Habib Beye. Sunderland are chasing the experienced defender. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is looking to strengthen his defence and sees Beye as an ideal option. Bruce missed out on Hamburg defender Guy Demel after the Ivorian defender decided to stay at Hamburg and it seems hes now turned his attention to Beye.
Bruce revealed: “It’s defensively that we are looking to do things this month,”
“Habib Beye is one I like and admire, but that’s as a far as it has gone at the moment. We are interested in him and we have had a look at him, but I’m not sure whether we are going to be able to do anything.”
