Italian Serie A side Genoa are looking to bring midfielder Fernando Menagazzo back to Italy from Bordeaux. The 28 year-old wanted to move back to Italy in the summer but none of the clubs interested would meet Bordeaux’s asking price.
The player spent two years at Siena before moving to the French champions and is prepared to sacrifice Champions League football to return to Italy. Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has expressed his desire to sign Menegazzo.
He told Sky Italia: “We are looking at Menegazzo and the player wants to come to Genoa. He is an important player and we like him very much. We hope to take him home.”
Menegazzo’s agent Massimiliano Ricci has also revealed that the player is determined to move back to Italy. He told calciomercato: “The intention to return to Italy was already shown last summer but, being a major player, Bordeaux has decided to sell him only for the player’s right value,”
“Fernando wants to play again in Italy and is ready to leave the Champions League. He wants to move to an ambitious club like Genoa and it could act as a springboard, as it has for Thiago Motta.
“But if (Bordeaux) don’t receive a satisfactory offer he will remain with the French club.”
Bordeaux are reportedly looking for £6million for the star but it looks likely that the Serie A club are willing to pay it.
