Scottish champions Rangers are set to open talks with Matias Abelairas over a potential move to Ibrox Park. Argentine midfielder Abelairas is a free agent after leaving his native River Plate and the Gers have begun contact over a potential move to Scotland till the end of the season. If Abelairas impresses, he could be handed a longer deal.
Abelairas was widely expected to join Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga last month but the move fell through at the last minute.
Abelairas is currently on trial with the Gers and an official announcement regarding his transfer is expected after today’s Old Firm game against arch rivals Celtic or tomorrow.
