Shay Given’s proposed move from Manchester City to Aston Villa seems to have moved forward after reports emerged that Villa have agreed a fee with City for the Irish stopper. Villa are in the lookout for a reliable keeper after seeing Brad Friedel leave the club and have earmarked Given, widely considered as one of the best keepers in the league, as his replacement.
Given joined City from Newcastle in January 2009 but found opportunities very limited last season due to the emergence of Joe Hart. With Euro 2012 coming up, Given is keen to secure regular football, something that Villa will definitely be able to offer the 35 year old.
Given still has two years to go on his current contract with Man City.
