Strachan managed Celtic with tremendous success over the last four years, winning a staggering 67.3 percent of his games with the Scottish giants. He won three domestic league titles, three domestic cups and took Celtic twice to the last 16 of the Champions League in his four year tenure as manager.
Sundeland, who are without a manager, after Ricky Sbragia resigned after the last day defeat to Chelsea are front-runners to sign Strachan as their new boss. Frank Rijkaard, Ronald Koeman and Slaven Bilic have also been linked with the vacant job at the Stadium of Light.
Also, Djibril Cisse has been told that he does not have a future at the club. Sunderland will refuse to pay 6 million pounds to make his move permanent from Marseille. Cisse was left out of their last two games in favour of Kenwyne Jones and Daryl Murphy. The decision has been made by American billionaire Ellis Short who will take over the club in the next 48 hours after securing a deal with chairman Niall Quinn.
