According to reports, Arsenal and AC Milan are among the high-profile clubs interested in Ryan Bertrand after talks between the left back and his current team Southampton over a contract extension failed to materialise into something concrete.
Bertrand is out of contract at St.Mary’s this summer, and Arsenal view him as a very good back-up option to Kieran Tierney at left back. Milan, whose recent acquisitions from the English market (Tomori and Dalot to name a couple) have worked well, are also reportedly interested, as are Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.
Bertrand started his youth career with Chelsea and had loan spells at as many as seven different clubs, including Southampton themselves, before sealing a permanent move to the South Coast in the winter of 2015. He originally inked a four-and-a-half-year contract before penning a fresh 5-year deal in the summer of 2016.
The 31-year-old has also been capped by England at senior level, but the last of those 19 appearances came back in November 2017 against Brazil. He also qualifies as a home-grown player, which is a point in his favour for Arsenal and any other domestic clubs that might be interested.
Bertrand has made close to 250 appearances across all competitions for Southampton during his stay at St.Mary’s so far.
