According to the Sun, Arsenal and Everton are in a two-horse race to sign Swansea centre-back Ashley Williams. The Gunners are reportedly not willing to meet the Welshman’s £10million price tag though and the Swans are unlikely to drop their price for one of their biggest assets.
Williams was superb at the heart of the Swansea defence last season, as the Swans finished a creditable ninth in the Premier League and won the Capital One Cup.
The Welsh international played under Everton boss Roberto Martinez at the Liberty Stadium and the Spaniard is believed to have a lot of admiration for the 28-year-old former-Stockport star.
The Toffee’s are unlikely to pay £10million for Williams, unless they offload one of their big assets such as left-back Leighton Baines or midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who have both been linked with big money moves this summer.
Reports emanating from Spain, suggest that Arsenal have made an enquiry about Levante’s talented young forward Ruben Garcia. La Liga side Levante do not want to lose the promising star this summer, but the 19-year-old has a minimum fee release clause of £8.5million in his contract. Levante would be powerless to stop the youngster leaving, if that fee was met.
