Fiorentina have officially confirmed the signing of midfielder Lucas Torreira on loan from Arsenal. The Uruguayan star will be in Florence till the end of the season, with Fiorentina paying the Gunners an initial loan fee of 1.5m euros. The Viola also have the option to make the deal permanent for 15m euros. Torreira will wear the No.18 jersey at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Italy is not an unknown place for Torreira- he started his senior professional career with Pescara in Serie B and then played for top flight outfit Sampdoria before moving to Arsenal in 2018. He made 89 appearances across all competitions in two seasons at the Emirates before being loaned out to La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid during the 20/21 campaign. Torreira featured 26 times for Atleti last season as they were crowned league winners ahead of Barcelona and cross-town rivals Real Madrid.
Fiorentina had a disappointing start to the 21/22 season as they went down 3-1 to Roma in their league opener. Their next game this weekend is at home against Torino. The Viola are also reportedly close to signing Alvaro Odriozola on a similar deal from Real Madrid according to media reports from Italy.
