According to reports, West Ham are considering the possibility of signing young Nigerian striker Victor Maja from French Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux. The 21-year-old is well known to current Hammers gaffer David Moyes, who managed him previously at Sunderland.
Maja signed a four-and-a-half-year contract when he joined Bordeaux, tying him to the club till the summer of 2023, but FCGB currently have serious financial issues and could be open to selling him if the right offer comes along. He had eight goals and three assists to his name in the 2019/20 season, including a hat trick against Nimes last December.
The striker also earned his first senior cap for Nigeria last year, coming on as a substitute for Victor Osimhen against Ukraine.
West Ham have struggled for quality strikers in the last few years, and haven’t really been able to fill the void left by Marko Arnautovic’s departure. Much was expected of French star Sebastien Haller, but he has had a quiet debut season. Alban Ajeti has had to be content with a handful of minutes off the bench, leaving Moyes to be heavily reliant on Michail Antonio, who has had injury and fitness issues of his own throughout the season.
