West Ham have completed the signing of Algerian star Said Benhrama on loan from Brentford till the end of the season. The Hammers will play the Bees a loan fee of £5m, but the deal also includes an obligation to buy for £20m, plus another £5m in potential add-ons, meaning that the winger could eventually end up costing the Irons somewhere around £30m in total.
West Ham were keen on attacking reinforcements after letting Grady Diangana and Felipe Anderson go in the summer window. For most of this season they’ve played Michail Antonio as the sole striker, with Sebastian Haller restricted to making appearances off the bench.
The Hammers were also interested in Josh King and had an offer for the Norwegian forward turned down last week. Benrahma is however three years younger than King, and that prompted the Hammers to aggressively pursue a deal with the Championship outfit, who narrowly missed out on promotion in 2019/20 after losing to Fulham in the playoff final.
Benrahama’s departure now means that two of Brentford’s famed BMW strike force that terrorised Championship defences last season have left the club, with Ollie Watkins also moving to Aston Villa earlier this summer.
