West Ham have officially made a 40m euro bid for Olympique Lyonnais’ Brazilian star Lucas Paqueta and are in talks with the Ligue 1 outfit over a potential transfer, according to multiple reports. Hammers boss David Moyes confirmed the club’s interest in Paqueta in a pre-match conference ahead of their Conference League clash against Viborg.
Paqueta joined Lyon from AC Milan in 2020 and the Rossoneri will get a percentage on the sale (about 15%), should a move to West Ham or any other club materialise. The Brazilian’s agents are keen to get a deal done before the conclusion of the current window, ideally with a Premier League club, and there should be no shortage of suitors, with the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle having been linked to the 24-year-old in the past.
West Ham beat Paqueta’s Lyon side in the quarterfinals of the Europa League last season before going down to Frankfurt in the semi-finals. Their start to the current league campaign has been poor though- they have suffered three straight defeats and are currently bottom of the table.
The Hammers have made seven signings already in the current window- Chelsea left back Emerson Palmieri was their most recent acquisition, and will face Aston Villa this weekend.
