West Ham United have officially completed the signing of defender Thilo Kehrer from French giants PSG. The 25-year-old German international has put pen to paper a four-year contract (with the option of another two-year extension), with the Hammers reportedly paying the Ligue 1 champions around £10.1m for his services.
Kehrer is a versatile defender who can play pretty much anywhere across the backline. The Hammers were desperately looking for defensive reinforcements after injuries to Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and Nayef Aguerd forced them to pair Ben Johnson alongside a limping Kurt Zouma in central defence against Nottingham Forest over the weekend, a fixture the visitors lost 1-0.
Kehrer is the Hammers’ sixth signing of the current window after Aguerd, Alphonse Areola, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet and Flynn Downes. David Moyes’ men are second from bottom in the league, having lost both of their fixtures so far.
The defender rose through the ranks at Schalke before sealing a 37-million-euro switch to PSG in 2018. He made over 30 appearances in three of his four seasons at Parc des Princes and represented them 128 times across all competitions.
Kehrer has been capped 20 times by Germany at senior level and won the U-21 European championships with Die Mannschaft back in 2017.
