West Ham have announced that they have completed the signing of midfielder Tomas Soucek on a permanent deal. The Czech international joined the Hammers on loan in the winter window and helped them preserve their Premier League status with a series of impressive displays. The fee is rumoured to be somewhere around £15m- in addition to the £4m fee the London outfit paid Slavia Prague when they signed him in January.
Soucek has inked a four-year deal which will keep him at the London Stadium till the end of the 2023/24 season. He made 12 league appearances for West Ham in the 19/20 season and scored three times, including key goals against Chelsea and Watford.
Soucek has been used by manager David Moyes in midfield- occasionally as a holding midfielder alongside Declan Rice, and sometimes in the No.10 role. Towards the end of the campaign, he played a more defensive role with Rice, with skipper Mark Noble allowed the freedom to move forward.
Moyes said he was delighted with the signing, and said that Soucek had been a good fit for the Hammers, providing excellent support to the likes of Rice and Noble. The manager also added that Soucek’s physical capabilities had made him a vital player for the club
