Giant Norwegian defender Brede Hangeland has been pivotal in Fulham’s seventh placed finish in the Barclays Premier League. But it does seem that he will be moving on to play for a bigger club in the coming season. Arsene Wenger has expressed interest in signing the tall defender. With Arsenal wanting to shore up their defence before the new season, s successful Premier League defender like Hangeland exactly fits the bill. Wenger is to offer up to £8 million pounds for his services. Fulham have offered Hangeland an improved contract in a bid to persuade him to stay at Craven Cottage but are resigned to him leaving if Arsenal come calling.
‘We’ll do everything in our power to keep Brede,’ said Hodgson. ‘Everyone knows he’s a player that we love. He’s still contracted to us and we want to keep him.
‘We’re doing everything in our power – but our power sometimes can’t be compared to the power of other clubs.’
Fulham are also ready to make a cheeky £4.5 million bid for West Brom winger Chris Brunt. Brunt was mighty impressive for the Baggies in the latter part of the season and would relish an opportunity to play in the Premier League after Wes Brom got relegated to the Championship. Fulham face competition from Scottish champions Rangers who also seem to be interested in the promising winger.
