Harewood set for Newcastle switch

Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood is set for a loan move to Newcastle according to his agent Phil Sproson. Newcastle are hoping to sign the former West Ham ace as a replacement for long term injury victim Shola Ameobi.

The North East side tried to sign Harewood in January but the striker was carrying a foot injury which scuppered the move. However he is not back to full fitness and looking for first team football but he is unlikely to get that at Aston Villa with Gabriel Agbonlahor, John Carew and Emile Heskey all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Sproson told Skysports.com: “I believe we are close to agreeing everything and hopefully the move can be finalised later this week. Talks are ongoing between both clubs and I think they are keen to get it resolved. Marlon is back to fitness now and he is ready and raring to go. Marlon is very keen on going to Newcastle and playing regular first-team football again.”

Harewood has struggled to find his best form at Villa in the Premier League and a move to Championship Newcastle and regular first team football could be just what he needs. Harewood has also played for Nottingham Forest in the Championship previously and also had a loan spell at Wolves last season when they were in the second tier of English football.
