Celtic have moved to make three new defensive signings on transfer deadline day, with two of them coming from Manchester United and Man City.
The Hoops have signed promising young right back Lee O’Connor from United and Netherlands U-19 international Emmanuel Frimpong from City. They also completed the acquisition of left back Greg Taylor from Kilmarnock to fill the void left by Paul Tierney’s move to Arsenal earlier this summer.
Neither O’Connor nor Frimpong have made senior appearances for their respective previous clubs, but are regarded as talented prospects. O’Connor can play anywhere across the back four, and can also fill in as a midfielder if required.
While bringing in some reinforcements, the Hoops also sent out several of their own youth stars on loan, with right back Anthony Ralston joining St.Johnstone and Scotland U19 midfielder Ewan Henderson moving to Ross County.
This summer transfer window has been a pretty productive one for Neil Lennon’s men as they seek to defend their crown. All signs appear to point to another Hoops title victory, especially after their convincing 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox over the weekend. While they didn’t qualify for the Champions League, they did make it to the group stages of the Europa League, and have been drawn alongside Lazio, Rennes and Cluj.
