Watford have officially completed the signing of Samuel Kalu from Bordeaux. The 24-year-old Nigerian becomes the Hornets’ fourth signing of the winter window after Hassane Kamara, Samir and Edo Kayembe. Watford have reportedly paid around £3m for his signature, and the winger has put pen to paper a three-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at Vicarage Road till the summer of 2025.
Watford have several Nigerians in their squad currently, which should make it easier for Kalu to acclimatize to English conditions. One of them, Peter Etebo, has the same agent as Kalu.
Kalu started his European career with AS Trencin in Slovakia before joining Gent in Belgium in early 2017. One and a half seasons later, he joined French outfit Bordeaux on a five-year deal in the summer of 2018. He will wear the No.28 jersey at Vicarage Road.
Kalu has been capped internationally by Nigeria and has also represented the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Watford are second from bottom in the league currently and were beaten 3-0 by fellow strugglers Norwich in their last game. They will take on Burnley on the road in their next match, followed by a fixture against David Moyes’ West Ham at the London Stadium.
