Watford have completed the signing of Senegalese international Ismaila Sarr from Stade Rennais. The official transfer fee was not announced, but it’s reportedly a record purchase for the Hornets- around €35m, inclusive of add-ons.
The 21-year old was part of the Senegalese squad that reached the finals of the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations. Sarr played on the right wing that evening in Cairo, but his Teranga Lions side suffered heartbreak at the final stage as Algeria narrowly pipped them to the title.
Sarr started his career with Generation Foot in his native Senegal before joining Metz in 2016. A year later, he was off to Rennes despite rumours of potential interest from Barcelona. Last season, he made 50 appearances for SRFC across all competitions and had 13 goals and 11 assists to his name.
Watford finished 11th in the Premier League last season and with the addition of Sarr, appear to have more attacking firepower at their disposal as manager Javi Gracia seeks to break into the top ten in the upcoming league season. The Spaniard has also signed Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck this summer.
Sarr has put pen to paper a five year deal and will wear the No.23 jersey at Vicarage Road.
