Portsmouth’s veteran Icelandic defender Hermann Hreidarsson has completed his switch from Fratton Park to Championship rivals Coventry City. Hreidarsson, 37, has signed a deal that will keep him at the Ricoh Arena till the end of the current 2011/12 season.
Hreidarsson, who moved to the South Coast from London outfit Charlton in 2007, made over 100 appearances at Pompey and was part of their squad that won the 2008 FA Cup by beating Cardiff City. He however appeared only twice for Pompey in the 11/12 season as he was deemed surplus to requirements by gaffer Michael Appleton.
Hreidarsson moved to England in 1997 by signing for Crystal Palace and has remained in the country for the last decade and a half. He is also the captain of the Icelandic national football team and is the country’s second most capped player.
