Manchester City’s player of the year, Steven Ireland, has put all doubts over his future to rest by agreeing a 5 year deal with Manchester City. Ireland’s form in the Premier League saw him emerge as City’s most consistent player and his approach play and link-up with Robinho earned him many accolades. Ireland scored 12 goals for City, and was City’s second highest goal scorer behind Robinho.
Other Premier League clubs including Arsenal were keeping a keen eye on the Ireland situation. Talks with Ireland had stalled a few days ago, when it emerged that Ireland was not happy with the terms offered. But Manchester City made an improved offer which was signed on by the Republic of Ireland midfielder.
Commenting on Stephen’s new deal, City Manager Mark Hughes said, “Stephen’s new contract is great news for everyone concerned. He was outstanding all last season and is now one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. He thoroughly deserves all the praise that has gone his way after the hard work that he undertook last summer, and I know that he is already aiming to do even better for us next season and beyond”.
City are readying themselves for a very busy summer. One of City’s targets is believed to be Carlos Tevez. City are one of the five clubs who have agreed the valuation for the South American superstar. But City are set to lose Daniel Sturridge on a free, after he refused to sign an improved deal with City.
