Former-Everton attacker James McFadden has joined Premier League Sunderland on a free transfer. The former-Scottish international was released by Everton in the summer after joining the Toffee’s on a short-term contract for a second stint. The 29 year-old has joined the Black Cat’s on a short-term three month contract.
McFadden started his career off in his homeland at Motherwell and was a highly-rated youngster before joining Everton.
He proved to be something of an enigma in the Premier League and never found the consistency needed to be a first team regular at Goodison Park. He then moved on to Birmingham, where he endured the same problem.
Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill told the media on Thursday: “It gives him an opportunity. One, to get as fit as he can now, which he has been doing for quite some weeks – he feels pretty good – two, to come and join the squad and three, just to try to get into the team,”
