Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink moves to Hull City

Hull City have snapped up Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink on a free transfer. Vennegoor of Hesselink was a free agent after being released by Scottish Premier League giants Celtic in July 2009. He has put pen to paper a two year deal reportedly worth £2m at the KC Stadium.

Before signing for Hull, Vennegoor of Hesselink was linked with Championship outfit Bristol City, but wages proved to be a stumbling block in the deal.

The 6’3 forward started his career at FC Twente before moving to PSV in 2001. He moved north to Scotland in 2006, and made 80 appearances for the Bhoys in his three years at Parkhead.

Vennegoor of Hesselink is the second striker Hull signed during the summer, after picking up American striker Jozy Altidore on loan. The Tigers also attempted to sign Michael Owen, Bobby Zamora and Daryl Murphy, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to bring the trio to Humberside.
