Brazilian international striker Jo is set to complete a season-long move to Everton from Manchester City. The former CSKA Moscow player is already training with his Everton teammates and its now just a matter of completing his medical.
Jo spent half of last season on loan at Goodison Parkafter joining on transfer deadline day in January. He impressed manager David Moyes enough for the Everton boss to want to re-sign him after scoring 5 goals in 12 Premier League appearances, but at the end of the season Moyes admitted Everton didn’t have the funds to make the move permanent.
Another season-long loan seems to suit everybody. It suits Everton as the Toffee’s managers transfer funds will be limited this summer, it suits Jo as he likes the club and will get regular action. Manchester City will also be satisfied with the deal, as Jo doesn’t feature in manager Mark Hughes plans and City won’t have a unhappy player on their hands.
Everton assistant manger Steve Round told the clubs official website: “I am very much hoping a deal can be put in place. I think we saw last season what he is capable of,”
“Last season the manager was very keen on Jo and perhaps tried to sign him but was pipped at the post by City.”
He also went on to explain Jo’s poor form at City could have been caused by difficulties in adapting to a new country saying: “He came in as a young player to Manchester and struggled at first,”
“The Premier league is different to anything else anywhere in the world. But he found his feet with us, came through and got us some goals.
“He’s certainly a player we would like to have in our squad and firing.
“It’s up to the club to try and finalise a deal. Hopefully that will come off and we’ll have a very, very good player in our squad.”
