Italian giants Juventus have today officially confirmed the permanent signing of USA midfielder Weston McKennie from Schalke. The 22-year-old had joined the Bianconeri on a season long loan with the option to buy last summer, and Juve have now exercised that option.
The Turin outfit will play Schalke a fee of 18.5 million euros, payable over 3 years, with a further 6.5m euros potentially payable if certain other conditions are met. McKennie has now signed a contract with Juve that will keep him at the club till the summer of 2025.
McKennie, a FC Dallas youth product, moved to the Bundesliga in 2016. He made 91 appearances across all competitions for the Royal Blues during his stay at the Veltins Arena. Schalke are currently struggling to avoid relegation, and the money brought in by McKennie’s sake is expected to help the debt-stricken outfit.
McKennie has already made over 30 appearances for Juve this season and has already found the back of the net five times for Andrea Pirlo’s side- only Ronaldo, Morata and Chiesa have scored more than him at Juve this campaign.
The Bianconeri are currently third in the league table, seven points behind leaders Internazionale, and will play Lazio this weekend in Serie A.
