According to reports, Juventus will reportedly make a whopping £150m bid for Virgil van Dijk in the summer. Should the transfer materialise, it will again make the Dutch centre half the world’s most expensive defender, a tag that Van Dijk lost to Harry Maguire following the latter’s move from Leicester to Manchester United.
Van Dijk has been key to Liverpool’s success over the last couple of seasons and has already won the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup with them. Barring a catastrophe of sorts, the Premier League will be added to that list at the end of the current season, with Liverpool already having a significant lead at the top of the table over defending champions Man City.
Juve are reckoning that Van Dijk may be interested in seeking a new challenge if the Reds win the Premier League, and will look to entice him to Turin, where he could play with Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. While Juve have dominated Italy domestically like no other team this decade, the Champions League title has still eluded the Bianconeri.
Van Dijk also captains the Dutch national team and lead the Oranje to a runner up spot at the Nations League last year.
