Greek international defender Sotiris Krygiakos has agreed to join Liverpool from AEK Athens for a fee in the region of £1.5million. The 30 year-old revealed the move on his official website: “Last week I said I was an AEK player for the next four years and meant that,”
“But then I received the biggest challenge of my career.
“I fully understand it came at the worst possible moment for the team, but the fact that I had the chance to play for Liverpool is a huge challenge.”
The centre-back’s move to Anfield now just depends on him completing his medical. He already has experience of playing in British football after spending time with Scottish giants Rangers.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez told the clubs official website:”We have nearly done the deal subject to a medical,”
“He is a player with experience who can hopefully help us in defence.
“He has experience in British football and Rangers. After that with Frankfurt and the national team.
“He’s a good player in the air, strong and aggressive. We were looking for a player with experience.
“He will have the medical this week, it has to be before the weekend.”
The Reds manager is currently without Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger and had to play Spanish youngster Daniel Ayala in the 4-0 victory over Stoke. It was the 20 year-old’s full debut for the Red’s and Liverpool are in desperate need of defensive cover.
