Frank Lampard is set to extend his loan spell at Manchester City. Although City have yet to make a formal announcement it is understood that the former Chelsea player has agreed to stay on with the champions.
This will be great news for the City fans with Yaya Toure going away on African Nations Cup duty for up to five weeks at the start of January. Lampard will provide much needed cover for the City in midfield.
Lampard, 36, has been fantastic for the blues since joining for them on loan from MLS New York City FC back in August.
The loan deal is due to run out on New Year’s Eve, and it is believed an agreement is in place for him to stay with City until mid-Feb, with the new MLS season not starting until March.
City boss Pellegrini said: “I repeat that Frank is very important for our team so I hope he will stay here. The reason [for the delay in a final decision on his future] is not important – the important thing is that he stays here.
