In a surprising twist in one of this winter’s most prominent transfer stories, Brighton’s Leandro Trossard has officially joined Arsenal.
Whilst the winger had always looked North London bound this winter, Arsenal’s interest in the Belgian has surely stemmed from their recent missing of Mykahilo Mudryk to Chelsea.
Mikel Arteta’s side looked on course to smash their transfer record to bring the Ukrainian to The Emirates, but in what will feel like an all too similar situation for Gunners fans, a late swoop from London rivals Chelsea saw them lose out.
In turn, that has seen Arteta swiftly shift his attention to Trossard, who until the last few days was the subject of interest from rivals Tottenham.
Spurs reportedly submitted a verbal offer of £12m for the winger, however this was laughed off by Brighton who supposedly place a significantly higher value on the Belgian despite recent events. But Trossard and his camp have been vocal in their desire to leave the South Coast.
Trossard has certainly shown an aptitude for Premier League since arriving from Belgium back in 2019/20, putting up eight, 10, and 11 goal contributions per season and looking on course to better this again in 2022/23.
In his 16 league games so far, the winger boasts an impressive return of seven goals and three assists, including a hat-trick at Anfield, showing Arsenal will be inheriting a strong attack option.
Looking at their squad, the Gunners could certainly do with reinforcements in attack, and while Trossard is a predominantly left-sided winger he has shown the ability to play on either flank.
For under £30m, Trossard looks to be exceptional value on the face of it, and he may even be what Arsenal need to secure a long-awaited Premier League title.
