Leeds United have officially completed the signing of midfielder Joe Rothwell on loan till the end of the season. The 29-year-old joins LUFC from Bournemouth- his original deal with the Cherries runs till the summer of 2026.
Rothwell spent the latter half of the 23/24 campaign on loan at Southampton and was an unused substitute in the Championship playoff final as Saints beat Leeds 1-0 to pip them to a spot in the Premier League.
The midfielder is a Manchester United youth product and had loan spells at Blackpool and Barnsley before joining Oxford United in 2016. His performances for OUFC in League One lead to a move to Blackburn in 2018, and he spent four seasons at Ewood Park before joining Bournemouth on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.
Rothwell made 35 appearances across all competitions for the Cherries. His only goal for them came in a League Cup third round clash against Stoke City in 2023/24. He has also been capped by England at various youth levels from U16 to U20.
Leeds will start their Championship campaign next month at home against Portsmouth at Elland Road, followed by two away clashes at West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday.
