Leeds United have officially completed the signing of Juventus medio Weston McKennie on loan till the end of the season. The Whites will pay Juve a loan fee of 1.25m euros (plus an additional potential 0.25m fee).
The deal also includes an option to purchase for 34.5m euros (plus 4.5m in addons), and according to Italian news sources, Leeds are obligated to buy him if he makes more than 10 appearances for them and they don’t get relegated from the Premier League this season.
The 24-year-old McKennie began his career with FC Dallas in the MLS before sealing a switch to Bundesliga outfit Schalke in 2017. He made over 90 appearances for them before joining Juve on loan at the beginning of the 20/21 season, thus becoming the first American to play for the Bianconeri. Juve made the deal permanent in March 2021.
McKennie becomes Leeds’ third signing of the summer window after Max Wober and Georginio Rutter. LUFC already have other American players in the form of Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson in their squad.
The young midfielder could make his Leeds debut this weekend when they take on Nottingham Forest. LUFC are 15th in the table, one point above the drop zone, but with a game in hand.
