Leeds star opts for continental switch

Leeds striker Kemar Roofe has opted to pursue his career on the continent after agreeing a move to Belgian Jupiler League club RSC Anderlecht. The transfer fee was not officially revealed, although sources have it to be around the 6 million euro mark, and the 26-year old has signed a three year contract with the Brussels outfit.

Roofe joined Leeds from Oxford United in 2016 and spent three successful years at Elland Road, notching up more than a hundred appearances for the Whites. He scored 14 goals in the Championship last season as Leeds suffered playoff heartbreak after having looked set for automatic promotion for most of the season.

Roofe will link with up Vincent Kompany, the veteran City defender who returned to his old club as player-manager this season. Kompany has been busy in the summer window, signing the likes of Samir Nasri and Michel Vlap. Roofe is his second forward signing of the window after Wolfsburg’s Landry Dimata.

Anderlecht finished a disappointing 6th in Belgium last season, failing to qualify for Europe altogether. Kompany is yet to win a league game with them so far, with RSCA losing to Oostende and drawing with Mouscron in their first two games of the new season.
