Championship side Leicester City are in talks with former Ajax midfielder Edgar Davids. The 36 year-old is available on a free transfer after his contract with the Dutch side expired. He has a wealth of experience at club and international level. He has played for Juventus, Ajax and AC Milan and also had a two-year spell in England with Tottenham.
Leicester manager Nigel Pearson told the media: “When players become available, if they are the right players for us then we investigate it. There has been interest but after that I am not in a position to comment further. There is nothing to elaborate on at the moment. There has been interest in both directions, but whether it comes to anything is another story.”
The Foxes Chairman Milan Mandaric has revealed that the club are in negotiations with Davids representatives. He told Sky Sports News: “We are in conversation with Edgar and his agent at this point and that is all I can say,”
“We are progressing and it is exciting and that’s what our manager wants and our supporters want. We are not there yet. If we couldn’t afford him we wouldn’t be talking to him. We are a very ambitious club our supporters are very ambitious.
“We already have a competitive and talented squad and team but there is always room for improvement and our goal is to try and give it a go this year and try and get out (of the Championship) and people with that kind of profile like Edgar will probably help us.”
