Leverkusen rule out Berbatov signing

Bundesliga outfit Bayer 04 Leverkusen have ruled out the possibility of signing Man Utd striker Dimitar Berbatov this summer. Bayer, one of Berbatov’s former clubs, was touted as a possible destination for the flamboyant Bulgarian earlier this year, but the Werkself have ruled themselves out of the running after United activated a one year extension to his contract.

The extension means that Bayer will have to pay United a transfer fee if they want to acquire Berbatov’s services, something they aren’t willing to do at this moment. Club executive Wolfgang Holzhauer said that they were interested in Berbatov, but only if he was willing to arrive on a free transfer.
