Bayer Leverkusen have officially completed the signing of midfielder Granit Xhaka from Arsenal. The Bundesliga outfit have paid the Gunners a fee of 25 million euros for the Swiss midfielder’s signature and he has put pen to paper a five-year-contract that will keep him at the Bay Arena till the summer of 2028.
The move sees Xhaka return to the German top flight after a seven-year stay in London. He started his career with Basel in his native Switzerland before joining Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012. Arsenal then signed him from Gladbach in the summer of 2016.
The Gunners sanctioned Xhaka’s departure after agreeing a fee with West Ham for Declan Rice a few days ago. Xhaka made 47 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal last season and his last game for them saw the midfielder grab a brace in a 5-0 demolition of Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of the campaign.
Bayern Leverkusen are currently managed by Xabi Alonso. They finished 6th in the Bundesliga last season and will be playing in the group stages of the Europa League in 23/24.
Apart from Xhaka, Leverkusen have also signed Alex Grimaldo from Benfica, Artur from America and Jonas Hoffmann from Gladbach this summer.
