Premier League clubs Liverpool and Tottenham are leading the race to sign FC Utretcht attacker Rick van Wolfswinkel whose style of play has often been compared to Marco van Basten. van Wolfswinkel, who was a regular for the Dutch U-21 side, has just made his full international debut for the Oranje. The 21-year old attacker, who can play both up front or on the wings, is considered to be one of Europe’s hottest properties and has been tracked by major European clubs since his debut for Vitesse Arnhem in 2008.
Liverpool’s Director of Football Damien Comolli has earmarked him as a star for the future. Harry Redknapp is also a huge fan of the youngster and has sent scouts on numerous occasions. Arsene Wenger has also been tracking van Wolfswinkel, but is unlikely to make a move in the January window.
His agent Louis Laros sounded hopeful of a move in January, “At this moment it is unlikely Ricky will move because I have not received an concrete offer from either Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool. I cannot say at the moment if it is serious interest, an enquiry, or just rumours. We are waiting for calls from both clubs, as we need an official offer from Liverpool or Spurs to proceed.”
Liverpool are also considering bids for FC Cluj striker Lacina Traore and Japan international Keisuke Honda.
