Liverpool have officially confirmed that they will be signing Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid on loan, subject to the former Borussia Dortmund star passing a medical at Anfield. Arsenal were hot favourites to sign Turkish medio Sahin for practically the whole of the summer, but the deal fell through and he will now be joining the Reds.
Reports in Spain said that Liverpool had offered a greater loan fee than Arsenal and were willing to cover all his wages while on loan, thus swinging the deal their way despite the absence of Champions League football at Anfield.
Arsenal were looking at Sahin as a replacement in midfield for Alex Song, who joined Real’s rivals Barcelona a few days ago.
