Renato Sanches was four years ago one of the most exciting young talents in the world of football, even winning the 2016 Golden Boy award. He was also part of Portugal team, which won the EURO 2016 and left everybody amazed by the 18-year old midfielder. A transfer to Bayern Munich soon followed and Renato Sanches went off the grid, with 35 appearances and even a disastrous loan spell at Swansea behind him.
The chance to revive his career came at Lille and this season they are challenging PSG for the title. Sanches is one of their most influential players this season and this did not go unnoticed, as Liverpool have been touted as his next destination. The rumors circles that Liverpool see him as an ideal replacement for the Dutch midfielder Gini Wijnaldum, who will most likely run down his contract and leave for free at the end of the season.
With Sanches being preferred in the number 5 or 6 role, that could see him as an ideal replacement for versatile Wijnaldum. He is still only 23, with plenty of football ahead of him and a bigger move will probably be on the cards the next summer. A possible January swoop was also mooted, but Liverpool opted against this, since Wijnaldum will surely stay until summer. The fee for the Portuguese star is rumored to be only 18 million pounds, which is acceptable considering his age and enormous potential.
The ability to influence the attack and be a creative force in the midfield are easily his most impressive features. The loan spell at Swansea should not play an important role, as he was mostly injured but also played with a much weaker team than Liverpool. Should Liverpool be able to land the Portuguese midfielder, they will become an influential player who, alongside Fabinho and Keita, will be the backbone of Liverpool midfield for years to come.
