At just 19-years-old, Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham put in yet another world-class performance helping England cruise to a 6-2 victory over Iran in their opening World Cup game.
With the January window just weeks away, links between Bellingham and Liverpool are ever-present, with Jurgen Klopp’s squad badly needing reinforcements in the centre of the park.
Given that Thiago, Arthur Melo, and Naby Keita are increasingly injury-prone, with the latter out of contract this summer alongside Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and James Milner, the Reds are set to lose a number of midfielders being forced to recruit sooner rather than later.
Bellingham’s performances over the last two seasons have caught the eye of all Europe’s top clubs, with his goal on Monday only further reminding clubs just how talented the 19-year-old is.
In 32 Bundesliga appearances last campaign for BVB, the former Birmingham City man notched an impressive three goals and eight assists playing predominantly as a central midfielder, already eclipsing this tally in 2022/23 taking his game up yet another level.
Across all competitions, Bellingham boasts nine goals and three assists in just 22 games, including an unprecedented four goals in five in a tough Champions League group including Manchester City, Sevilla, and Copenhagen.
Being capable of playing all across central midfield, the Englishman would be a seamless fit for Klopp’s side, but would likely command a fee north of £100m that would see Liverpool shatter their transfer record.
Whilst the winter is hardly a buyers’ market, the Reds may look to move for Bellingham in January akin to their purchase of Luis Diaz last season which saw the Columbian instantly impact the side in the latter half of the campaign.
However, given his pedigree, Liverpool are destined to face stern competition for Bellingham’s signature with the Borussia Dortmund starlet one of football’s hottest prospects.
