Two years after he was shown the door, Liverpool are actively looking to secure the services of Tottenham target-man Peter Crouch. The shortage of strikers at Merseyside is a worrying sign for Hodgson and he aims to lure Crouch to fill the void up front. An offer of £10million is expected to be made to the London club.
In his first spell at Liverpool, he scored 22 times in 85 appearances in the League. After leaving Liverpool, he has had stints with Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur but has not been in white hot form. Hodgson is also keen to increase the English contingent at the club. With Gerrard and Carragher singing praises of the tall striker, a move may not be far away.
Crouch’s move to Liverpool could well be decided by Tottenham’s success in the transfer market. Redknapp has a distinct liking for Crouch having managed him at three different clubs. Crouch would be allowed to go only if Spurs are successful in signing Klaas Jan Huntelaar or Luis Fabiano.
A move to Liverpool would also mean the lack of Champions League football for the tall English striker. Tottenham start their Champions League campaign with a two-leg qualifying round against Young Boys of Berne whereas Liverpool play in the Europa League.
