Five years after leaving Lyon for Arsenal, forward Alexandre Lacazette has officially returned to his former club, with the Ligue 1 outfit announcing his signing on a free transfer. The striker has put pen to paper a three-year contract that will keep him tied to Les Gones till 2025.
Lacazette was Lyon’s record sale when Arsenal signed him for 60 million euros back in 2017. He scored 71 goals across all competitions for the Gunners in his five-year stint at the Emirates, crossing double figures for goals in every season but the most recent 21/22 one.
Lacazette’s departure, coupled with the earlier one of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona, means that managerMikel Arteta will be seriously hunting for a striker in the current window. Eddie Nketiah is likely to pen a new deal, but nothing has been formally announced on that front yet.
The Gunners have been linked to a number of players- Victor Osimhen, Paulo Dybala and Gabriel Jesus to name a few.Osimhen and Dybala both played in Serie A last season with Napoli and Juventus respectively, while Jesus was part of the Man City side that won the Premier League in 2021/22.
