According to reports from Spain, Newcastle have reached an agreement with Real Sociedad for Alexander Isak, with the Magpies set to pay the La Liga outfit a whopping 70 million euros for the Swedish striker’s services. The deal would not only make Isak Newcastle’s most expensive signing but would also be a record sale for Sociedad, eclipsing that of Inigo Martinez four years ago.
Newcastle had been linked with Isak in the past, but made a new bid to sign the forward following Callum Wilson’s injury in the 3-3 draw against defending champions Manchester City over the weekend. If the deal does go through, he will become NUFC’s fourth major signing this summer after Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett.
Isak started his career with AIK in his native Sweden before moving to Dortmund as a teenager in 2017. He also had a spell on loan at Willem II before sealing a 10-million-euro switch to Sociedad in the summer of 2019. He has scored over 10 goals in each of his last three seasons with the Basque outfit and at 22, is a long-term investment for the Magpies. He has also been capped 37 times by the Swedish national team.
Newcastle are unbeaten in the league so far (1W, 2D) and will face Wolves this weekend.
