Manchester City have completed the signing of young Peruvian defender Kluiverth Aguilar from Alianza Lima. The deal, the first ever transfer between the two clubs, will see the teenager stay at Alianza till he turns eighteen (May 2021)
Aguilar started his career with Sporting Cristal before moving to join their city rivals Alianza last year. He has said in the past that he hopes to model his career on Dani Alves, the legendary Brazilian full-back who has played for the likes of Sevilla, Barca, PSG and Juve.
What City intend to do with Aguilar once he turns eighteen is unclear, but it is very likely that he will be loaned out to one of the many clubs in the City Football Group, with the likes of New York City (MLS), Melbourne City (A-League) and Girona (Spain) all potential options. Montevideo City Torque, Yokohama F-Marinos, Sichuan Jiuniu and Mumbai City are the other clubs in the CFG.
Aguilar could well follow the path taken by Yangel Herrera, who joined City at the age of 19 and has since had loan spells at NYCFC, Huesca and Granada. Herrera has also been capped internationally by Venezuela in this period and already has 18 appearances for the national team to his name.
