Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag following a disappointing start to the season. Ten Hag’s tenure ended with a 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday, leaving the team in 14th place in the Premier League with only three wins from their first nine matches.
In the Europa League, United are currently ranked 21st out of 36 teams, with three consecutive draws in their group stage matches. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has stepped in as interim manager.
Just three months ago, United extended Ten Hag’s contract for another year after the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. Despite this, the club has now parted ways with him, citing their poor start to the season, which includes their second-lowest points tally after nine league games with just 11 points.
The search for United’s sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 is now underway.
