Manchester United have completed the signing of Ashley Young from Aston Villa on a five year contract. Young, who was also hotly pursued by United’s great rivals Liverpool, has switched from Villa Park to Old Trafford for a reported £17m fee.
Young, who joined Aston Villa from Watford, had less than a year to go on his Villa contract. He is an extremely versatile player- he can operate on both wings and can also play as a centre forward if required, thus increasing the options at Sir Alex Ferguson’s disposal
Young officially becomes United’s second signing of the summer after Phil Jones. Villa will however have to pay 15% of the fee received from United to Watford because of a sell on clause present when they picked up Young from the Hornets.
