Manchester City have completed their first signing of the summer transfer window by signing young Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell for a reported fee of £15million, rising to £18million depending on appearances.
The 21 year-old has signed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium. Rodwell is a highly-rated youngster, who recently made his debut for England. He can play at the heart of the midfield and previously played at centre-back.
His development stalled last season due to a series of niggling injuries. He will now be hoping to remain fit and healthy to fulfil his potential. City have been frustrated in their attempts to bring in fresh faces this summer.
It seems the Premier League champions have given up hope of signing main target Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie. City boss Roberto Mancini recently admitted that he didn’t think the Dutchman would be arriving at the club this summer.
