Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has revealed his admiration for Hamburg defender Jerome Boateng. The Italian now looks set to make a summer move for the highly-rated full-back. Mancini is believed to want to strengthen his backline this summer and sees the youngster as an ideal addition to his squad.
The 21 year-old is rated in the £11million bracket. He revealed his desire to leave the Bundesliga club earlier this week but has attracted interest from numerous clubs throughout Europe. However Manchester City are favourites to secure his signature due to their vast wealth.
Boateng is hoping to go to the World Cup with Germany this summer. He is the brother of Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng. Both brothers were eligible to represent Ghana as well as their homeland. However chose to represent their homeland, although Kevin is yet to win a senior international cap.
When asked about Boateng Mancini revealed: “He is only young but he is a good player. We have followed him, like we have followed a lot of players but I don’t think we will decide what to do until after this season is over.”
If Boateng does join City then he will be following in the footsteps of former-Hamburg teammates Vincent Kompany and Nigel De Jong.
