The world’s a small place, they say and no wonder Wayne Hennessey would agree. The former Manchester City trainee who was released by the club in favour of Kasper Schmeichel is attracting interest from City scouts. City want Hennessey to provide competition to their current number one – Joe Hart.
Roberto Mancini chose Joe Hart as City’s number one over the experienced Shay Given at the start of the season. The Republic of Ireland international had not made the switch to City from Newcastle to warm the bench, and as a result, Given is most likely to quit the club in the summer. The 23-year old Hennessey provides a long-term goalkeeping option for City and the coaches at Eastlands want the two best young goalkeeping talents in Britain at the City of Manchester Stadium. Hennessey has been the first choice custodian for Wolves since 2006 and has made over 100 appearances. He has 29 senior international appearances for Wales as well, at such a tender age.
Hennessey has just signed a contract which will keep him at Molineux till 2015. But he might be tempted to make the switch to the Premier League if Wolves get relegated at the end of the season.
