Manchester City sign Sylvinho

Manchester City have completed the free signing of former Barcelona full-back Sylvinho on a one-year deal. The Brazilian was released by Barcelona earlier this summer when his contract at the Camp Nou expired, he’s expected to act as cover for England left-back Wayne Bridge.

The 35 year-old has a wealth of experience, including playing at Arsenal for two seasons. He has also won two European Cups and three La Liga titles at the Camp Nou and played for his national side six times.

Manager Mark Hughes told City’s official website: “Sylvinho has a wealth of experience at the very top level, having represented Brazil and played for some of the very top clubs in Europe,”

“When the chance presented itself to bring him to Manchester City as a free agent I saw it as representing excellent business for us.

“Sylvinho won the European Cup last season at Barcelona and he will strengthen our defensive options.”

As we told you on yesterdays Football Transfers Everton defender Joleon Lescott will move to Manchester City for a reported fee of £24million, the England defender just needs to complete a medical and agree personal terms and he will be a City. Everton have stated all summer that they didn’t want to sell, but had to renege due to Lescott’s apparent poor attitude.
