Both Manchester City and Manchester United are said to be interested in Juventus star Joao Cancelo, after the Portuguese defender tipped for a summer exit from Turin by the Italian media.
Cancelo, primarily a right back by trade, made 34 appearances for Juventus across all competitions last season, but the Bianconeri are willing to sell him for the right price- around the £50m mark. That would be a reasonable profit on a player the Serie A champions acquired only twelve months ago for 40 million euros.
Both City and United are looking to strengthen the right side of their defence this season. It’s been a problem area for United in particular, with the long serving Antonio Valencia set to leave Old Trafford this season following the expiry of his contract. At 24, age if very much on the Barreiro-born Cancelo’s side. City are in the market for a quality back-up for Kyle Walker.
Cancelo, as mentioned above, is primarily a right back, but can also play as right wing-back or a right sided midfielder should the need arise. At the time of writing, he has earned 14 caps for Portugal, but didn’t feature in their 2018 final World Cup squad.
Juventus are looking for a new manager following Massimiliano Allegri’s decision to leave the Bianconeri, and Cancelo’s future depends on what the next incoming gaffer thinks about his abilities.
